Pakistan's anti-corruption agency arrested former prime minister Imran Khan at Islamabad High Court on Tuesday (May 9) threatening fresh turmoil in the nuclear-armed country as clashes erupted between Khan supporters and police, killing at least one protester. Khan was taken to the garrison city of Rawalpindi, near Islamabad, for questioning at the offices of the National Accountability Bureau, according to police and government officials. A lawyer representing Imran Khan on Wednesday (May 10) called the former Pakistan prime minister’s arrest a “state abduction”, a day after he was taken into custody in a corruption case.
