The Seattle Mariners were hosting the New York Yankees during the beginning of the 1996 regular season. Their incredible rivalry during the mid-90s was at its height during this period, which saw the Mariners and Yankees face off in an epic playoff battle during the 1995 postseason. Following the fireworks of that series which ended in Ken Griffey Jr.s infamous run home to clinch the series victory, these two teams were at the forefront of baseball entering the '96 season.
