3 Minute Rule or 10 Seconds - Toll Tax Ka Sach - Fact Check

There are lots of rumours on Social media regarding free toll tax if time taken is more than 3 minutes or 10 Seconds. On 20 July, 2017, NHAI clarified that there is no exemption of Toll Tax in case time taken to cross the toll is more than 3 minutes. Regarding the "10 Seconds rule", NHAI has issued guidelines to ensure service time of not more than 10 seconds per vehicle even at peak hours at the toll plazas on the National Highways. But there is no provision of free toll tax if time taken is more than 10 Seconds. As per new guidelines issued on 26 May, 2021, a yellow line at a distance of 100 meters from toll booth will be marked in each toll lane. If there is a queue of waiting vehicles of more than 100 metres due to some reason, the vehicles will be allowed to pass without paying toll till the queue comes within 100 meters from the toll booth.
