Varkala Travel Itinerary 4D/3N | Beaches, Temples & Offbeat Places to Visit | Kerala 2025 | Day 3

Welcome back to my Kerala travel series! If you’ve seen Day 1 (Varkala Cliff & Jatayu Earth Center) and Day 2 (Trivandrum’s beaches and temples), you know I’ve been soaking in Kerala’s coastal charm one day at a time. Day 3 in Varkala was a perfect mix of early-morning beach hopping, temple visits, hidden gems, remote work with a view, and a relaxed sunset on the cliff. If you’re someone who wants to combine travel and work, or if you’re simply looking to plan the perfect Varkala day trip, this vlog will give you all the details you need. 🌅 Sunrise at Varkala Cliff We started early at Varkala Cliff — the town’s heartbeat. In the morning, it’s peaceful: fishermen heading to the sea, the sound of waves, and a soft golden glow over the Arabian Sea. 📌 Tip: Perfect time for photography and avoiding the daytime crowd. 🕉️ Papanasham Beach – The Sacred Shore From the cliff, we walked down to Papanasham Beach. The name means “destruction of sins,” and locals believe a dip here purifies the soul. This beach blends spirituality with natural beauty, making it one of Kerala’s most unique coastal spots. Just above the beach lies the Janardanaswamy Temple, over 2000 years old and dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple’s architecture, with its tiled roofs and carved wooden pillars, is classic Kerala style. Pilgrims come here year-round, especially during festivals. 📌 Dress Code: Modest clothing if you plan to enter the temple area. 🏝️ Kappil Beach – Where Sea Meets Backwaters Next stop — Kappil Beach, about 6 km from Varkala. This place is stunning: the Arabian Sea on one side, calm backwaters on the other, and a narrow road in between. It’s quieter than the main beaches, perfect for a peaceful morning. ⚫ Black Sand Beach – Nature’s Art From Kappil, we visited Black Sand Beach. Its dark-colored sand comes from mineral deposits and gives the shore a completely different vibe. It’s less touristy, perfect for an evening walk, but swimming here isn’t recommended due to strong currents. 🏖️ Edava Beach – Hidden Gem A quick visit to Edava Beach rounded off our morning explorations. Almost empty, it’s a great spot for birdwatching during migration seasons. By 11 AM, it was time to return to our homestay for Monday work calls. This is where Varkala truly shines for digital nomads — many homestays and cafes offer reliable Wi-Fi with sea views. 🐠 Varkala Aquarium & A Missed Show In the afternoon, we visited the Varkala Aquarium — small but worth a quick stop. We also checked the National Centre for Performing Arts, hoping to catch a cultural show, but there wasn’t one scheduled that day. 🌇 Sunset & Food on the Cliff Evening brought us back to Varkala Cliff. The sunset here is magical, with the sky painted in oranges and pinks over the vast Arabian Sea. We wrapped up the day with delicious food and coffee at a cliffside café. 📍 More Places You Can Add to Your Varkala Trip If you have more days here, consider: Sivagiri Mutt – Memorial of Sree Narayana Guru Sarkara Devi Temple – Famous for the Kaliyoot festival Odayam Beach – Quieter beach option Saint Sebastian Pilgrim Church – Coastal charm Anjengo Fort & Lighthouse – Historic and scenic Kaveri Elephant Park – For wildlife lovers Thanni Beach – Undisturbed and beautiful Munroe Island – Backwater paradise 🚤 Activities in Varkala Paramotoring – ₹4000 Mangrove Kayaking – ₹600–₹1000 Surfing Lessons – ₹1500 Ayurvedic Massage – Traditional Kerala wellness Bindu’s Café – Coffee with a view 🗺️ Quick Travel Tips Best Time: November–February Getting There: Nearest airport – Trivandrum (40 km) Stay Options: Homestays, hostels, beach resorts Pack: Cotton clothes, sunscreen, reusable bottle 🎯 Next Stop – Alleppey Backwaters That wraps up Day 3 in Varkala — from sacred beaches to hidden gems, all in one day.
