Cricket stars from all over the world will gather in India to battle for the title. In this five-team tournament, 20 league-stage games will be played, with the table-toppers securing direct entry into the final. Meanwhile, the teams finishing second and third will play the Eliminator to determine the finalists. RCB Women had released five local players. Disha Kasat, Indrani Roy, Shraddha Pokarkar, Shubha Satheesh and Simran Bahadur were released ahead of the player auction. Before the auction, they also completed a trade to bring Danni Wyatt-Hodge on board from UP Warriorz. In the auction, RCB bid for Prema Rawat, Joshitha VJ, Raghvi Bist, and Jagravi Pawar to strengthen their squad. An injury to Sophie Molineux forced her to pull out of the upcoming edition of the WPL, and RCB signed Charlie Dean as her replacement. The Smriti Mandhana-led side also brought in Heather Graham and Kim Garth as replacements for Sophie Devine and Kate Cross. The core of the side that lifted the trophy last year remains intact, with Smriti Mandhana leading the team. They also have the experience of Ellyse Perry, Georgia Wareham, Renuka Singh Thakur, and Richa Ghosh. Perry got injured in the Women's Ashes Test match and her availability for the first game is uncertain. Shreyanka Patil is also coming off a long injury layoff and she too may not start for the title holders. Youngsters Shreyanka Patil and Kanika Ahuja are also there along with experienced campaigners like Asha Shobana and Ekta Bisht. An injury ruled Asha Shobana out of the tournament and as her replacement, RCB have signed wicketkeeper-batter Nuzhat Parween. Gujarat Giants had let go of seven players, including three overseas, ahead of the player auction. They released Kathryn Bryce, Lauren Cheatle, Lea Tahuhu, Sneh Rana, Tarannum Pathan, Trisha Poojitha and Veda Krishnamurthy. They added four players during the auction. The Gujarat-based franchise got 'World Boss' Deandra Dottin and English all-rounder Danielle Gibson. They also added two Indian players, Prakashika Naik and Simran Shaikh. Shaikh was the most expensive buy of this year's auction. She was roped in for a whopping 1.9 crores by the Giants. Giants also made a change in the leadership, appointing Ashleigh Gardner as skipper. In the previous edition, Beth Mooney was the captain for the Gujarat-based franchise. With world-class players on both sides, the WPL tournament opener promises to be a cracking contest. Can Gujarat Giants topple the defending champions?
