Sept. 11 victims honored at Flight 93 Memorial

Wednesday morning's ceremony came a day after ground was broken for a visitors' center at the crash site.More than 200 people at the Flight 93 National Memorial heard the names of the 33 passengers and seven crew members who died in the crash.-VIDEO: 9/11 Tribute Flight 93 was traveling from Newark, N.J., to San Francisco on Sept. 11, 2001, when it was hijacked with the likely goal of crashing it into the White House or Capitol. The 9/11 Commission concluded that the hijackers downed the plane as the hostages revolted.As passenger Todd Beamer issued the rallying cry Let's roll, he and several fellow passengers rushed down the airliner's aisle to try to overwhelm the hijackers after learning of the coordinated attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.In Shanksville, victims families friends, memorial officials were silent as bells tolled for the 40 victims who sacrificed their lives for the country. The ceremony started with the national anthem and ended with a wreath laying. Nearly 3,000 Americans died in the series of terror attacks that used commercial airplanes as weapons. In New York City, people gathered at ground zero to commemorate the attacks' anniversary recited the names of the nearly 3,000 people who died when hijacked jets crashed into the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon and in Somerset County.
