Over the weekend, Stockton Firefighters responded to hundreds of emergencies. Crews mitigated multiple vehicle accidents (including one MCI), alarm soundings, multiple reported shooting/stabbing, and multiple full arrests. Firefighters also extinguished dozens of outdoor fires, and two working structure fires. Both occurring on Sunday (yesterday), the first was reported in the middle of the night in a single story church on San Jose Street. Crews were able to extinguish the working attic fire quickly and without incident. The second working structure fire on Sunday occurred at approximately 2 in the afternoon, and would require multiple alarms to bring under control. Firefighters arrived to heavy smoke and fire from a 3 story apartment complex on Oak Street: exposing into a neighboring 2 story, multi-family victorian on the Delta Side. Crews overcame multiple challenges to knock down the blaze, including: poor visibility in heavy smoke, altered floor plans, task saturation from multiple floors and buildings on fire, and a long duration firefighting of 4 hours. 41 residents were displaced due to the fire. Thanks to quick actions by crews on scene and a fully functioning alarm system, they were no injuries reported from residents or firefighters. Multiple video captures illustrate how arduous the operations on scene were, and how hard firefighters had to work to overcome challenges. Due to staffing challenges, many firefighters continue to work or be mandated for additional shifts routinely. The daily grind can be taxing for our firefighters… this operation was substantially more demanding. We thank you for your views, support, feedback, and comments.
