The town of Lund, Sweden is spreading chicken manure in its central park to stop crowds from celebrating Walpurgis Night. Walpurgis Night in Sweden marks the shift from winter to spring & summer. It is usually celebrated with picnics, parties, and bonfires. The city council ordered workers to dump more than a ton of manure and shared a video on its official Facebook page of a worker spreading the fertilizer in the park. Sweden has taken a softer approach than many of its European neighbors in regard to lockdowns and physical distancing guidelines. It’s asked, rather than ordered, citizens to maintain their distance. Sandberg is hoping his city’s chicken manure strategy deters people from partying in the park, so deters people from partying in the park, so they remain healthy.
