WEST CHESTER, Ohio (Adam Clements) -- Hundreds came together to say goodbye to their hero. Army Master Sergeant Corey Hood was laid to rest Saturday, August 22. The 32-year-old Lakota West Grad died after a skydiving accident at a Chicago air show. Even long after Corey Hood graduated from Lakota West High School, the Army Master Sergeant was just as entrenched in the Firebird community as he ever was. Randy Oppenheimer said, "He was the kind of kid who never really left Lakota. He stayed in touch with us, he wrote to his teachers and coaches. That very community said goodbye to Corey Saturday morning, six days after he died during a parachuting stunt he was performing as a part of the Chicago Air and Water Show. He collided with another jumper mid-air then crashed into a high-rise building. Hundreds filled the stadium at Lakota West clutching American flags and holding onto memories of the man they knew. Coreys brother-in-law, Steve Hunt, said, "He loved being a part of the Golden Knights team, he loved to be on the jumbo tron, giving interviews to the press. He was living his dream and we got to live it with him." Hood served five tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan and earned two bronze stars; a fitting resume for a worthy role model in the tight knit community.
