(18 Apr 1999) Natural Sound The latest exodus of refugees flooding into Albania are finding that there is nowhere to go. Camps in the north of the country are full, and the Red Cross is finding it impossible to deal with the huge numbers now arriving. These refugees are spending the night on the Albania border. They have fled Yugoslavia only to find that there is no room for them in the Albanian refugee camps. So they are camping through the night in makeshift covers and tarpaulins just past the point where they crossed over. More than 33-thousand people - most of them frightened, hungry and exhausted - have poured through the border crossing with Yugoslavia in the past two days. Relief workers are also expecting another 50-thousand will follow closely behind. The situation is so serious that early on Sunday relief organisations were making plans for the possible use of US military helicopters to evacuate some of the 130-thousand refugees from the area. Meanwhile, makeshift border shelters - often just made up of plastic sheeting - are all these people have to protect themselves through the night.
