[MKWii] Input Viewer Test - Ninrankings Ghostviewer

Hello everyone, Handy863 here bringing you another video today. This time I have an editing test video that I'd like to share with you of something I've been trying to achieve for a rather long time and have now finally been able to do. since I recorded the MKWii world records, I have been trying to get an "Input viewer" to show the the player inputs for their run, just like an added extra to show that they are not using anything Like TAS or any Hacks to achieve their time. To put this to my video I was trying to look for a plug in for the game which would show the input viewer on screen when I played back the ghost data to record. If I couldn't find that then at least a window that I could load the ghost into to record the inputs from there would do. Unfortunately I couldn't get my hands on anything like that myself so I ended up having to record the ghostviewer from Ninrankings instead. A viewer that I did find and really liked the look of but couldn't get hold of myself was one created by mkdasher. I believe that it only runs on emulator (in a different window) rather then in the game. Yet, I couldn't find anywhere that I could get this from -    • [MKWii] Ghost Input Viewer Test #2   To put this all together I first screen captured the Ghostviewer off of Ninrankings before downloading the ghost onto my SD card and then recording that from my Wii. Once I started putting this together on vegas I realised that the Ghostviewer was rather out of sync with the video, even though the timers were more or less synced with each other. After an hour or so of fiddling it soon became clear that the Ghostviewer was actually a fair bit slower then the replay footage so I went about trying to speed it up to re-sync it. In order to achieve this I took the frame on the input viewer where the first lap shroom was used and sinked it up to the first frame of the footage where the shroom came out. I then looked at lap two and three's shroom spots compared to the viewer and counted the frame off sync. Then I sped up the viewer's recording by the amount of frames that the viewer was off by before going back to the lap one shroom spot to repeat all of the steps again. I did this for a good few hours until I finally got all the shroom inputs in time with the spot on from the footage. I ended up splitting the footage for the viewer at the start second lap frame (the first frame that shows "lap 2" on screen). This was because the sync between lap one and three's shroom spot always contradicted each other (e.g. lap 3 would be 3 frames ahead, Lap 1 would be 3 behind). For theses two parts, the viewer's lap one playback rate was 1.076 where as the part for laps two and 3 was at 1.077 (In vegas if you right click your video clip and go on properties you'll find and area called "playback rate" which is the sped that your video plays back to you at. This would usually be set to 1.000 if you haven't changed the videos speed at all). This got all the shroom spots in sync with the replay footage and most of the other inputs to. Some of the other button inputs are still a little off, this is only by a few frames in which most are barely noticeable and it would have taken me far much longer to change them all. As for the rest of the editing I did to put the ghost viewer to the replay footage, well as I spent so long getting the timings correct I didn't really spend much time on this bit. All I did was simply chroma key the white background. I tried my best to make it so that it got rid of more of the background as well trying not to get rid of bit's of the controller. This seemed to appear less accurate after I rendered it out as there are still some white pixels of background around the controllers edge (which didn't show for me when editing). It would have probably been good to if I dropped the opacity of the viewer so that it's not filling up the screen to much. Hopefully I should be able to put this to use but at a higher quality later on If I find another more accurate way to record and apply the input viewer to my ghosts rather then painfully using the ninrankings one.
