Modes of nutrition in fungi, nutrition in fungi, how do fungi eat their food? Fungi are heterotrophs. They get their nutrition by absorbing organic compounds in the environment. There are three modes of nutrition in fungi: saprophytes, parasites and symbionts. Fungal hyphae of the saprophytic fungi grow into their food source and secrete digestive enzyme to break down the food into small molecules which can be absorbed. So these fungi feed on dead animals or plants and non-living organic compounds. They decompose these material to get their nutrients. Some fungi are parasites. They live on or in other organisms and they release their enzyme to break their host tissue and they can be harmful to their hosts. In addition, some fungi live mutualistically with other organisms. They can live with green algae, autotrophic bacteria and plants. You can learn free biology lessons in Khmer on this channel and we'll upload more videos on biological terms and so on.
