The chorale Nicht so traurig, nicht so sehr – recorded here for All of Bach with vocalists of the Netherlands Bach Society – belongs to the less known chorale harmonisations published after Bach’s death. The melody didn’t recur in organ works, Passions and cantatas by Bach himself and those of other composers. The words are by German preacher and poet Paul Gerhardt, and were published for the first time in 1647, but always in a setting to another melody. Recorded for the project All of Bach on the 6th of May 2024 at the Sint-Gertrudiskerk in Bergen op Zoom.
