She knows it better than anyone on earth. We’ve heard her talk about how dangerous it can be once you’re there. But, this is the first time we’ve seen her seemingly terrified of tampering with it from the outside world. [clip, turn it off] In the post credit scene of Antman and the Wasp we see Janet, Hank, and Hope send Scott into the Quantum Realm to collect healing particles for Ava Starr, AKA, Ghost. Who we’ll be seeing in the Thunderbolts. And in that scene she warns Scott to steer clear of tardigrades and time vortexes. [clip] But apart from that she doesn’t seem scared of interacting with the Quantum Realm. So, what’s different this time? Well, Cassie is sending a signal throughout the entirety of Quantum Realm. A signal that Hope is scared someone will pick up on. That someone being, Kang the Conqueror. Doug: Hold on person, Janet escaped the Quantum Realm before Sylvie killed He Who Remains. So how could she know about Kang? Good question. Doug is of course referring to Sylvie killing the Kang variant, He Who Remains, in the Loki finale. When this happened we saw the Sacred Timeline begin to break. The Sacred Timeline being a series of realities allowed to exist because they did not include the existence of any Kang variants who could restart the Multiversal War. So, how Janet could have known Kang is an important question. The answer could simply be that time is relative. The events of Loki occurred outside of the time stream AND time and space work very differently in the Quantum Realm. [clip] So our linear understanding of time could be irrelevant here. But, we think this Kang may have been around prior to the death of He Who Remains. A Kang who has survived He Who Remains annihilation of all his variants and their timelines. We think it’s possible that during the creation of the Sacred Timeline, the Kang we meet in Quantumania may have escaped to the Quantum Realm to avoid being pruned from existence. Meaning that this Kang has been living in the Quantum Realm for as long as He Who Remains has been living in the Citadel at the End of Time. In the trailer we hear Kang say [clip, I’ve lost a lot of time] So, our theory is that this Kang has been patiently waiting for his moment to return. In the trailer we can see what is likely Kang’s city from the comics, Chronopolis. As well as an armada of ships and an army of soldiers. So just like how the Emperor secretly oversaw the construction of over a thousand star destroyers. [clip, somehow Palpatine returned.] Kang too has likely been preparing for his triumphant return to conquer the multiverse. Doug: If He Who Remains is all knowing, wouldn’t he know that this Kang was alive? Well let’s look to classic Loki to help answer that question. The TVA is an extension of He Who Remains. Their technology that monitors the creation of variant timelines alerts them of anything that doesn’t obey the predetermined path of the Sacred Timeline that He Who Remains has written. With “Kang’s” not being a part of that Sacred Timeline, you’d think the TVA and therefore He Who Remains would be aware of this Kang being alive. But like with classic Loki, variant timelines are only created when something occurs that changes the course of history. For example, Loki is supposed to die at the hand of Thanos. Classic Loki however faked his death. [clip] Classic Loki went into hiding on a remote planet where he had no interactions with anyone, so he might as well have been dead. Therefore, the flow of time as He Who Remains intended it did not change. It wasn’t until Classic Loki left that planet that he created a variant timeline and was picked up by the TVA. [clip] We can think of Kang the same way. His presence in the Quantum Realm does not affect the flow of time within the Sacred Timeline. Only if he were to leave the Quantum Realm would He Who Remains become aware of his presence.
