VOA60 Climate Watch - Drought threatens million in the Horn of Africa

Millions of people in the Horn of Africa will soon need urgent humanitarian aid due to the drought that is shaping up to be one of the worst in 40 years. Somalia, Kenya, and now Ethiopia have raised the alarm about the latest climate shock to a fragile region. Rising temperatures are causing plants in the United Kingdom to flower almost a month earlier than they did over more than two centuries until the mid-1980s, potentially posing risks to wildlife, scientists said on Wednesday. Climate activists are denouncing the inclusion by the European Commission of nuclear and gas in the list of green energy sources for investment in the energy sector. The commission on Wednesday presented its so called "taxonomy" proposal, a classification system to define what economic activities can qualify for sustainable investment.
