Did Recent Torrential Rains Help California's Historic Drought

(1/15/16) Even after a series of storms, only minor improvements were made to the drought-stricken California. The state is going on five years in a drought, with parts of central California in an exceptional drought. Only a 2 percent improvement was measured by the newly released California Drought Monitor. That keeps more than 42 percent of California in an exceptional drought. This is after areas like Sacramento received over two and a half inches of rain since the New Year. In desperate need of more rain, an El Nino winter could mean relief. The warming waters in the Pacific mean a wetter-than-normal winter for the Golden State.
