Gioachino Rossini’s opera „William Tell“ has an overture with four movements, wherein the final movement (also sometimes called the “March of the Swiss Soldiers”) is by far the most famous one. Originally, I didn’t think about transposing it to solo violin, because the harmonies don’t change a lot. However, considering how fast the piece is, including too many double stops could have made it too complicated anyway. I am mostly quite satisfied with the transcription. The most difficult parts are probably the fast position switch in measures 37 and 38 the high position in measures 99 and 100 as well as the bass in measures 179 and 203. The last one is a bit of bummer, because I can’t play it well at proper speed, but the bass forms such a fitting “running start” into the bass movement of the two subsequent measures. I kept in with brackets for anyone who wants to try playing it. You can ignore any slurs that I put in. I am awful at consistent use of slurs, so better don’t adapt mine. Also, the tempos I write into my music sheet are usually quite arbitrary, but musescore wants me to put one inside if I want to change the tempo. Enjoy!
