At least 15 civilians have been killed in an Iraqi military offensive to retake Fallujah and the surrounding areas from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) group. The military has taken al-Karma, 48km west of Baghdad, having ordered civilians to get out of the city before the operation began on Sunday. However, the UN has given warning that many of the 50,000 local residents are not being able to get out and are in harm’s way. Al Jazeera’s Caroline Malone explains.
