In this step-by-step tutorial, I will show you how to design one of the most useful mechanical parts from scratch: a custom threaded screw and cap (a nut and bolt mechanism). We will use Fusion 360 to go from a completely blank workspace to a fully functional, 3D-printable threaded design. You will learn how to: Sketch & Extrude: Use keyboard shortcuts to draw the basic inner and outer cylinders and pull those 2D sketches into 3D bodies. Generate Threads: Use Fusion 360's built-in "Thread" tool to automatically generate the perfect screw threads on your models. Analyze Clearances: Use the "Section Analysis" tool to digitally slice your model open and look inside to check the fit. Create Perfect Tolerances: Apply an "Offset Face" of -0.2mm to create a 0.4mm overall clearance, ensuring the threads screw together smoothly right off the printer! Clean Up the Print: Add fillets to round off sharp edges, which makes the parts much easier for your 3D printer to handle Export & Slice: Export your model as an STL and properly split and orient the pieces flat on the build plate in Bambu Studio for the highest chance of printing success.
