Rare Van Gogh painting auctioned off for $15.4 million in Paris

A unique painting by Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh dating back to 1887 was auctioned off for 13.1 million Euros (15.4 million USD) in Paris on Thursday. After a bidding battle between two candidates which lasted several minutes, the painting 'Street scene in Montmartre' was sold for nearly 5 million Euros above the initial price, setting a new record for a Van Gogh painting in France. The artwork, which has not appeared in public since 1920, was one of the few paintings by Van Gogh to still have been in private hands.
