This is a basic experiment we did looking at some petrographic thin section rock slides. This microscope is not set up for polarizing. We just wanted to see what it would do. We configured it for DIC and cross polarization and viewed the slides at the extinction angle. We got some Birefringent Colors under DIC and cross polarization with no compensator. But the best images for seeing color were in cross polarization with a Lambda compensator plate added. We did DIC transmitted light. We did not do reflected light. Rotating the screw on the objective DIC prism moved the DIC shear plan and made all the colors change. Equipment: Zeiss Axioplan-2ie imaging Microscope.
