One of the iconic travel destinations in the Midwest, Mt Rushmore is a patriotic must stop for any camper, traveler, or tourist. Memorializing 4 iconic presidents and patriots, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln carved into the side of Mt Rushmore standing 5725 above sea level. Designed as a "Shrine of Democracy by sculptor Gutzon Borglum the presidents are designed to represent the nation's birth, growth, development, and preservation. While also hoping to encapsulate Lewis & Clark, Sacagawea, Chief Red Cloud, Bill Cody and Chief Crazy Horse - Borglum decided the 4 president's would have broader appeal. Not far away in the Black Hills the Lakota National has undertook the task of memorializing Chief Crazy Horse into the mountain side.
