Captain Marvel , also known as Shazam , is a fictional superhero , comic book character originally published by Fawcett Comics and later by DC Comics . Created in 1939 by artist Charles Clarence Beck and writer Bill Parker, the character first appeared in Whiz Comics #2 (February 1940). Captain Marvel - alter ego Billy Batson, a dreamy teenager who works as a radio news reporter and was chosen by the kind wizard Shazam to become a superhero. Whenever Billy says the wizard's name, he is struck by magical lightning, which turns him into an adult superhero with the powers of six mythological figures [2] . Several of his friends and family members, better known as the "Marvel Family", including Mary Marvel and Captain Marvel Jr., can receive a portion of Billy's power and become "Marvels" themselves. Hailed as "the strongest in the mortal world" in his adventures, Captain Marvel was given the nickname "Big Red Cheese" by the supervillain Doctor Sivana; this epithet was later adopted by Captain Marvel fans. In terms of comic book sales, Captain Marvel was the most popular superhero of the 1940s, as a comic book series about him called Captain Marvel Adventures sold more copies than comics about Superman and other superheroes in the mid-1940s years [3] [4]. Captain Marvel was the first comic book superhero to have his adventures adapted into movies: in 1941, Republic Pictures produced the television series The Adventures of Captain Marvel. Fawcett Comics stopped publishing comics about the character in 1953, in part due to a copyright infringement dispute with DC Comics , which claimed that Captain Marvel was an illegal use of Superman's image traits. In 1972, DC licensed the Marvel Family characters and brought them back to the comic book world in their publications, finally acquiring all rights to the characters in 1991. DC has since introduced Captain Marvel and the Marvel Family into their DC Universe and has attempted to revive the hero's popularity several times. However, Captain Marvel did not gain much popularity among new generations, although in the 1970s the character was featured on the three-season television series Shazam! on CBS . Because Marvel Comics trademarked their Captain Marvel between releases of the Fawcett and DC Captain Marvel stories, DC Comics could not market Captain Marvel and the Marvel Family under that name. Since 1972, DC has instead used the Shazam! as the name of their comics about this hero and thus, under the same name, the hero was marketed. Because of this, Captain Marvel is often erroneously referred to as "Shazam". After the reboot of all DC comics in 2011, the character finally began to be called "Shazam" ------------------------------------------------------------ ♫ Track: [Electro Swing] ProleteR - The Precious Hours ♫ Watch: https://soundcloud.com/proleter-beatmaker ------------------------------------------------------------ ♫ Track: How's It Supposed to Feel (Instrumental) ♫ Watch: • How's It Supposed to Feel (Instrumental) Taken from channel: NEFFEX - Topic License: Creative Commons ------------------------------------------------------------ ♫ Track: Subject 31 - Morty (Playlouder Remix) ♫ Free Download: https://soundcloud.com/playlouderofficial/...
