It is a Meccan Surah, meaning it was revealed in Mecca. This Surah consists of 11 verses and is named after the word "Al-Qari'ah," which means "The Striking Calamity" or "The Great Catastrophe." Surah Al-Qari'ah focuses on the Day of Judgment, describing its sudden, catastrophic nature and its profound impact on all creation. The Surah begins by highlighting the overwhelming and shocking arrival of Al-Qari'ah (the great calamity), emphasizing its magnitude and intensity. It questions the reader about what this calamity is, indicating its unimaginable and frightening nature. 1. The Suddenness of the Day of Judgment: The Surah opens with an emphasis on the sudden and terrifying arrival of the Day of Judgment, which will be unlike anything humanity has ever experienced. 2. The State of People and the Earth: It describes a scene where people will be like scattered moths, disoriented and overwhelmed, and mountains will be like fluffed wool, torn apart and weightless. 3. The Weighing of Deeds: It concludes with the weighing of good and bad deeds. Those whose good deeds are heavy will attain a pleasant life (paradise), while those whose good deeds are light will face a "pit of blazing fire." Verses 1-3: The Surah begins with the mention of Al-Qari'ah and questions about what it truly is, indicating the terror of that day. Verses 4-5: The imagery of people scattered like moths and mountains like fluffed wool illustrates the chaos and disarray on that day.
