Homily 10/19/2022 / Wednesday of the 29th Week in Ordinary Time

First Reading Reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Ephesians (3:2-12): You have heard of the distribution of God's grace that has been given to me for your benefit. The mystery of which I wrote to you briefly above was made known to me by revelation. Read it, and you will see how I understand the mystery of Christ, which was not previously revealed to men, but has now been revealed through the Spirit to his holy apostles and prophets: that the Gentiles also are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and sharers in the promise of Jesus Christ through the gospel, of which I am a minister by the grace God gave me with his power and might. To me, the least of all the saints, this grace was given: to proclaim to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches of Christ, and to make clear to all the fulfillment of the mystery, hidden from ages past in God, the Creator of all things. Thus, through the Church, the Principalities and Powers in heaven now know the manifold wisdom of God, according to the eternal plan, fulfilled in Christ Jesus, our Lord, through whom we have free and confident access to God through faith in him. Word of God _______________________________ Psalm Is 12:2-3, 4bcd, 5-6 R/. You will draw water with joy from the wells of the Savior. He is my God and Savior: I will trust and not be afraid, for my strength and my power is the Lord, he has become my salvation. And you will draw water with joy from the wells of salvation. R/. Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name, tell the nations of his deeds, proclaim that his name is exalted. R/. Sing aloud to the Lord, who has done marvelous things, proclaim them throughout the earth; Shout for joy, you inhabitants of Zion: "How great is the Holy One of Israel in your midst!" R/ ___________________________________---- Gospel A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke (12:39-48): Jesus said to his disciples: "Know this: if the master of the house knew at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let him break in. But you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you least expect." Peter asked him, "Lord, did you tell this parable for us, or for everyone?" The Lord answered him, "Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom the master puts in charge of his household to distribute their food at the proper time? Blessed is the servant whom his master finds so doing when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. But if the servant thinks, 'My master is taking a long time to come,' and begins to beat the boys and girls, to eat and drink and get drunk, the servant's master will come on a day and hour when he least expects it and will dismiss him, condemning him to the punishment of those who are unfaithful. The servant who knows his master's will and is unwilling to do it will be beaten with many stripes; the one who does not know but does something worthy of punishment will be beaten with few stripes. To whom much is given, much will be required; to whom much is entrusted, much will be required. The Word of the Lord
