Kaczynski leaving STORYLINE Polish prime minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski said on Saturday that the Polish national security board is to convene in order to make a decision on a US request to place a missile defence shield in Poland. "In two days the national Polish security board will convene and it will make a decision on this issue, but I won't deny that I feel these are bilateral issues between Poland the United States," Kaczynski said after meeting with European Union leaders in Berlin. Many Poles fear hosting a base would threaten their country's security, rather than protect it, as the US government promises. Washington is pressing for missile defence bases in Poland and the neighbouring Czech Republic, a system it says would protect most of Europe from Iranian airstrikes in the future. Moscow, however, is furious about the plan and has warned it could lead to a new arms race, even though the US stresses the system is not aimed against Russia.
