Michigan Governor declares energy emergency, loosens fuel blend rules to cut gas costs

In response to rising gas prices in Michigan, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer declared an energy emergency Thursday. Executive Order 2026-4 eases the requirements on fuel blend, allowing for the sale of higher vapor pressure gasoline, such as E15, which are typically 10 to 20 cents cheaper, according to a release from Whitmer's office. The order also suspends the May 1 requirement for lower vapor pressure gasoline in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Livingston, Monroe, St. Clair, and Lenawee Counties.
