Story The game’s introduction takes place on Krypton in its final days: the planet is attacked by Brainiac, a collector alien from the planet Colu. After digitizing the major cities of Krypton—Kandor and Argo City—along with their inhabitants, Brainiac leaves Krypton, detonating beta bombs that fracture the planet’s core. Kara Zor-El, who witnesses Brainiac’s actions, rushes home, where she is greeted by her mother. Her mother tells her that Krypton is about to explode, but there is still a chance for Kara and her one-year-old cousin, Kal-El, to escape—his parents discovered a habitable Earth in a distant star system. Krypton explodes, causing Kara's shuttle to veer off course, but Kal-El reaches his destination. In the present day, Batman and Robin are rushing to Arkham Asylum, where Superman, along with his followers, has begun executing “irreparable criminals.” Batman pleads with Superman to reconsider, but Superman is unwavering in his belief that his actions are just, leading to a fight between the two. The battle is interrupted when Damian Wayne kills Victor Zsasz in front of Batman, demonstrating his solidarity with Superman. Taking advantage of Batman’s shock from his son’s betrayal, Superman takes Damian with him. Five years after Superman’s defeat, Batman and his allies are working to maintain order on Earth, using the mass surveillance system "Brother Eye." However, while the remaining supporters of Superman’s Regime are in hiding, a new group called the "Society" emerges—a team of villains led by Gorilla Grodd, acting independently of both the Resistance and the Regime. Following advice from Lucius Fox, Batman starts assembling his own trusted team of heroes to combat the Society, which is preparing for a terrorist act. Along with his right-hand woman, Harley Quinn, Batman sends the Green Arrow (a counterpart from the third dimension) and Black Canary to Gorilla City to capture Grodd. After defeating him, Canary and Arrow are captured by Brainiac, who is revealed to be the true leader of the Society. After the operation fails, Catwoman, a "mole" within the Society for Batman, frees Harley Quinn and escapes Gorilla City with her. Meanwhile, Brainiac, in collusion with Grodd, begins a full-scale invasion and siege of cities. Barry Allen breaks his suspension and, as the Flash, rushes to Metropolis to fight off the alien attack, but is hindered by members of the Society. Hal Jordan, now reinstated as Green Lantern, joins the fray. After settling their earlier differences, these heroes offer their help to Batman, who reluctantly accepts. According to Batman’s plan, Hal is sent to Atlantis to gain Aquaman’s assistance. Initially, Aquaman refuses to cooperate, but after Brainiac attacks Atlantis, he changes his mind. Meanwhile, in Kahndaq, Black Adam and Wonder Woman decide to use Brainiac’s invasion as a means to free Superman and restore the Regime’s rule. Along with Kara in her Supergirl form (whose capsule Adam had found in space between the events of the games), they assault the Metahuman prison on Stryker’s Island. However, they encounter Blue Beetle and Firestorm, whom Batman had stationed on the island to guard the prison. Despite the escape of Damian and Cyborg, the heroes continue to hold the prison. Suspecting that the enemies have numerical superiority, Professors Stein and Jason prepare to destroy the prison with an atomic explosion, but they are stopped by Batman, who, to everyone’s surprise, frees Superman after heeding his advice on how to deal with Brainiac. The Resistance and Regime members come to a temporary truce to fight the Society and Brainiac. Batman sends Cyborg, Catwoman, and Harley Quinn to liberate "Brother Eye." Meanwhile, Wonder Woman and Supergirl coordinate the evacuation of civilians in Metropolis. However, Diana openly challenges Batman’s plan, attempting to kill Cheetah and Harley. Supergirl stops her and heads to the Fortress of Solitude to demand answers from Superman, only to be even more horrified by her cousin’s tyranny. Having captured several cities of Earth for his collection, Brainiac prepares to destroy the planet. The alliance attacks his ship, but they are stopped by its defense system. Superman, in an attempt to break through the ship's shields, is struck by the main cannon. Batman devises a new plan to disable the ship using magic. To do so, he sends Black Adam and Aquaman to Kahndaq, where, through Poseidon's Trident, the heroes are supposed to channel the power of the Rock of Eternity to strike Brainiac’s ship. They are confronted by Grodd, who has taken control of Green Arrow, Black Canary, and Blue Beetle. Manipulating these human pawns, the gorilla reveals his intention to betray Brainiac and use his technology to establish his own rule, ultimately abandoning his own Society. Aquaman and Adam defeat Grodd and execute him.
