Protest Over United Nations' Wonder Woman Role

Protest Over United Nations' Wonder Woman Role

In America, the United Nations, UN's decision to name Wonder Woman as their ambassador to promote women's right and gender equality, has sparked a protest among the UN staffers as they feel the fictitious character is not appropriate to represent women's empowerment. During a ceremony to designate Wonder Woman as an honorary ambassador for the empowerment of women and girls, some of the staff turn their backs in a silent protest, expressing their frustration over the decision. Over one thousand people has signed a petition initiated by the UN employees who demanded that the choice of Wonder Woman for the role to be reconsidered. According to one of the protesters, Shazia Z. Rafi, there were plenty of real heroines which is more suitable for the role. Rafi, who had campaigned for a woman to be appointed as the world's Diplomat-in-Chief, called it a slap in the face of all women who work within the UN.
