Silas tracked them down and fought through the giant compound all the way to the lumberyard, where he confronted Curly Bill, who chose to stay to allow Ringo to escape. Duel-wielding Bill was certainly a tough character. His action bought enough time for his comrade to flee. By the time he was defeated by Silas, Johnny Ringo was already gone. As it turned out, it would take Silas several months more to find and kill Ringo in another location.
