(23 Jan 2010) HEADLINE: Haiti ends searches for the living CAPTION: The United Nations says the Haitian government has declared an end to the searches for living people trapped in the rubble, despite that, another survivor was reported. (Jan. 23) [Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] NB. THIS IS A VOICEOVER TRANSCRIPT, NOT A FULL SHOT LIST. [Notes:ALL AP VIDEO] It''s a declaration that we''ve all known was coming but no one wanted to make. Saturday, the United Nations announced that Haiti''s government has declared the search and rescue phase for survivors over. It''s been 11 days says the seven-point-oh magnitude earthquake destroyed Port-au-Prince and survivors have been found every day since including an 84-year-old woman on Friday. But officials here say except for miracles hope is fading and crews need to turn their attention to cleaning up and rebuilding. (lines from the business clean-up) Saturday has also been a day of goodbyes here in the capital. (nat sound of funeral) More than a thousand people gathered at the ruins of the shattered cathedral to pay their final respects for the archbishop who was killed in the quake. So many people have been buried in mass graves, that many are considering this a funeral not just for the archbishop but for everyone who was killed. (nat sound of crying) Meantime more aid is being distributed, but still there''s not enough food, water and supplies for everyone here. (STAND UP) Reporters choice.
