(14 Jul 2015) As authorities hunted on Monday for any sign of Mexico's most powerful drug lord, security experts said it was clear that Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman's escape from the Altiplano maximum security prison must have involved corruption on a grand scale. Interior Minister Miguel Angel Osorio Chong and Security Commissioner Monte Alejandro Rubido Garcia both toured the half-built house connected to the end of the 1.5 kilometre (one mile) long tunnel which Guzman used as an escape route. Jorge Chabat, a crime expert from the CIDE (Centre of Economics Teaching and Research) think-tank in Mexico City said on Monday that Guzman must have bribed prison officials to facilitate his escape. Guzman is considered one of the world's richest and most powerful drug traffickers. He was recaptured last year after another prison escape.
