NieR:Automata Long Story Short Novel Review and Critique | Part 1

Additional information on this critique can be found here: http://firesanctuary.com/the-nierauto... The first of three NieR:Automata novels was just released in English, so this is my quick review / commentary on the subject, going through various notes and comments I wrote while reading. I've only read through the first chapter thus far, since I spent the majority of last night reading and comparing the English with the original Japanese novel. Just talking about the prologue took almost 15 minutes, so I'm hoping the next video won't take as long... We'll see. Also, my intention is not to blatantly bash the translator. I am coming from my own experience as a creative writer and Japanese speaker, so I am very much looking through this novel like I would any manuscript that would be discussed in my old creative writing seminars. These comments are meant to be constructive criticism, so if anything that I say seems to come off more harshly than I intended, I'm very sorry. I might get a little worked up over some things here and there, but that is mostly because of my love of the subject and anything created by Yoko Taro. That being said, I hope some of my insights were at least a little interesting. Please feel free to let me know what you think of the book as well! I can only hope that the translator can learn from these mistakes in order to make a better product in the future. There seems to be a bit of audio clipping going on throughout this video for some reason. I really don't know why. Nothing like that is in the actual video, so it must be a problem when uploading it to YouTube. sigh FOOTNOTES: 1.) Regarding the reversal of names (ie. Attacker No. 2 vs Type B No. 2) By the end of August 11942, the YoRHa Types Attacker and Gunner were entirely decommissioned. If any of these units managed to survive by going rogue, they are distinguished differently from other active units. The current units use the MODEL NUMBER then UNIT TYPE naming scheme, whereas discontinued units are the opposite with UNIT TYPE coming before the MODEL NUMBER. Correct: A2 = Attacker Type Number Two, 2B = Number Two Battler Type Incorrect: 2A = Number Two Attacker Type, B2 = Battler Type Number Two Also, I have a little problem with calling them "Type S" or "Type B" androids. It's a very minor gripe and I actually might deviate between the two naming order... But I like the sound better reversing this, for example, calling 9S an S Type YoRHa android rather than Type S. ____________________________________________________ Like, comment, and subscribe for more Yokoverse goodness!
