At the Reykjavik Rapid chess tournament in 2004, Garry Kasparov (2830 FIDE) and Magnus Carlsen (2485 FIDE) played a mini-match of 2 games. Carlsen’s early style as a chess prodigy featured a combination of blazing tactics and aggression with incredibly precise calculation. In this round 1 game of their rapid match, Carlsen had Kasparov on the ropes and barely missed the finishing blow – just barely allowing Kasparov to escape into a drawn endgame.
