Survived Babylon, Iraq | 120°F Heat, Ancient Ruins & Saddam Hussein’s Palace What happens when you visit the ancient city of Babylon, Iraq in the middle of summer when temperatures reach nearly 120°F (48°C)? You find out exactly how tough you are! In this Iraq travel vlog, I explore the ancient city of Babylon, one of the most historically significant sites in the world and a place associated with thousands of years of human civilization. From ancient roads and reconstructed walls to the famous Ishtar Gate replica, this experience offers a fascinating look into the history of ancient Mesopotamia. The heat was absolutely brutal, but the adventure didn't stop there. I also climbed toward Saddam Hussein's former palace/castle, where my camera actually overheated and stopped recording. Eventually, Iraqi soldiers told us to come back down! Along the way, we talk about the history of Babylon, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the possible connections between Iraq and the Garden of Eden, the rise and fall of empires, and what ancient ruins can teach us about power, wealth, and history. After leaving Babylon, we continued toward Najaf and witnessed something equally incredible: thousands of pilgrims walking toward Karbala for Arbaeen, even in extreme summer heat. Seeing families and children along the road offering food and drinks to travelers was one of the most unforgettable parts of the journey. This was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience—and one I will never forget. Watch until the end to see the incredible Arbaeen pilgrimage route and the people walking toward Karbala.
