While the MQB chassis is more rigid than the A5 chassis of my Laura VRS, the increased wheelbase on the FWD platform introduces a lot of chassis twist/flex especially on rapid direction changes making the rear of the car highly unpredictable and skip on the tarmac. While the OEM suspension setup tries to mask this at low speed manoeuvring the same cannot be said at high speeds. I started addressing this by adding the #RacingLine MQB rear hatch brace which reduces the hatch flex, but the lower chassis flex, especially around the rear subframe was still unsettling the car. After a lot of research I found a bespoke company called iSWEEP in Japan that made parts to address these exact issues using their rear 4 point chassis brace, and the rear subframe reinforcement brace. Along with these two braces, I ordered the front subframe brace as they claimed it would reduce wheelhop on hard acceleration which remains a major issue with these MQB FWD cars. Rear 3-piece Brace The install was a breeze, get the right tools and unbolt the rear trailing arms, loosen the running board covers and then remove the exhaust tunnel brace. Put in the three pieces of the brace, tighten the bolts back to the torque specs specified in the instruction and the rear 3 piece brace is in. Rear Subframe Brace This was also an pretty simple install. Manoeuvre the brace into the subframe and fix the M8 rear bolts on brace. Then use the provided shims to space the side mounts and bolt the brace on using the M10 bolts. Front Subframe Brace This is simple yet tricky. The instructions say to remove both from control arm bolts but you cannot remove the left side bold without dropping the subframe, so you just need to back it off enough for the brace to slip on. The right bolt will have to come off as it goes thru the brace instead of around it. Be careful not to damage the oilpan while you remove the right bolt. The rest bolts right up. I will have to trim the lower engine cover a bit to fit it back over the brace but for now i've just bent it a bit. Also the two of the rear aero bits need to be modified to fit over the braces. We will do that also in a separate video.
