Saltwater Fishing Tampa The Cobia was caught in Tampa Bay, Florida Under the Skyway bridge using a live pinfish on a 1 ounce knocker rig with fluorocarbon line. There was a dolphin chasing him around or following him so I got him in the boat pretty quickly. He really tore off the drag from my Shimano Trindad reel in the process. That was the 2nd Cobia in 2 days near the Skyway Bridge in Tampa Bay. Many Tarpon were rising that day as well and have hooked into several Tarpon fishing for Cobia using live bait. Mainly pinfish. Use knocker rigs with live bait. Greenbacks or live shrimp. Long fluorocarbon leaders with a ¾ or 1ounce slip sinker and 2/0, 3/0 or 4/0 hooks. This lets the bait swim natural when it hits the bottom and the knocker rig will not hang up on the bottom as often as a Carolina rig would.
