Fungal infections of the skin are on the rise in India. So, it is important to understand the causes of fungal infection, precautions to be taken, and effective treatment options. Some of the reasons behind Skin Fungal infections can be attributed to increased humidity, Use of steroid creams, and Noncompliance with treatment leading to resistant strains. Consult a qualified dermatologist who can make the correct diagnosis and administer proper treatment. Do not take medicines from a chemist as it can be dangerous. Make sure that you complete the course of antifungals as suggested by your dermatologist. Don't discontinue it mid-way as there are high chances of fungal infection coming back. Here are some of the Important things to remember if you have fungal infection: -Take bath daily: twice a day if possible Use a shower gel for bathing. If you use soap, use a small soap that can be discarded weekly. Dry yourself with a thin cotton towel. Towels need to be washed and ironed every day Wear loose cotton clothing Keep nails short Do not scratch the affected area.
