4. Exit seminar by Glenn Gregorio: The dream of a rice breeder, Pt4

This is the exit seminar of Glenn B. Gregorio, senior scientist II, Plant Breeder and deputy division head, Plant Breeding and Plant Breeding, Genetics, and Biotechnology (PBGB) at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI; http://irri.org). One important role of a plant breeder is to be a visionary, a dreamer! For a dream to be realized, a set of ingredients and tools must be in place. Glenn presens his dreams when he started at IRRI 29 years ago—how IRRI had realized those dreams, what dreams have been fulfilled, and the lessons learned and challenges met along the way. With new developments and transformations at PBGB, Glenn casts new dreams for the next 10-20 years. He has specialized in rice breeding and genetics of salinity and problem soils tolerance for Asia and Africa. He has been the principal investigator for IRRI's project on developing stress-tolerant rice for Asia and Africa, as well as for the other CGIAR challenge programs. He led the team to release more than ten rice varieties in Asia and Africa for saline, cold, and micronutrient dense rice. Apart from research, Dr. Gregorio has supervised scholars pursuing their undergraduate and graduate degrees from Asia and Africa. At the same time, he has served as an adjunct professor on plant breeding and genetics at the University of the Philippines and Central Mindanao University.
