Sega Genesis Classics - All 51 Games Shown [Switch]

In this video we are looking at every game included on the Sega Genesis Classics collection for Nintendo Switch. The Sega Genesis Classics (Or Sega Mega Drive Classics) is a retro games collection that contains a whopping 51 Sega Genesis games and represents great value for money. There's some must play games on this collection including Phantasy Star II, III & IV, Shining Force 1 & 2 along with Shining in the Darkness. The Sega Genesis Classics collection is a great way to experience these otherwise somewhat expensive classics and they are a great fit for the Nintendo Switch, especially in handheld mode. In terms of Puzzle games, this collection doesn't disappoint with great versions of Columns, Columns III & Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine which is a reskin of the excellent Puyo-Puyo. Beat em ups is another area where this collection shines and not only do you get all three Golden Axe games but you also get all three Streets of Rage games all of which can be played local coop and will provide hours of entertainment along with fantastic OSTs courtesy of Yuzo Koshiro. For platformers, we have some pretty heavy hitters from the Mega Drive's back catalogue including Alex Kidd, Ristar, Dynamite Headdy, Decap Attack and the first 2 Sonic the Hedgehog games. It's a shame we don't see Sonic 3 or Sonic & Knuckles included but I guess they are available on the lacklustre Sonic Origins Collection albeit with a heavily nerfed OST. Apparently, they were available for a time via the Steam version but Sega seems to have pulled them due to the Sonic Origins release. The main menu has a few features worth mentioning, it's set up like a classic 90s bedroom and games can be selected from a set of shelves and 'inserted' into a virtual Genesis. The collection has a few nice to haves such as quick saves the ability to rewind and fast work gameplay using the trigger buttons. This can be handy, especially in some of the slower RPGs included on this collection. There's a ton of options for scanlines, screen filters and borders but I preferred to play each game full screen without any filters as you can see from my Gameplay. Another feature I should mention is mirror mode, this flip the game screen and controls to compensate and it feels really weird playing some of these familiar games essentially backwards, it's a lot of fun and adds a lot of replayability to each game. In terms of performance, there is definitely a small amount of input lag. Nothing too bad for me personally but I could feel it while playing the two Sonic games. As far as I know, this is mainly present in the Switch version. I'm usually quite fussy with things like lag but I was easily able to adjust to it in this collection and it makes no difference at all in the plethora of RPGs included here. I would highly recommend picking up this great Sega Compilation, it can be had pretty cheap over at Video Games Plus often being sold for around the $20 mark. For 51 games, you cannot go wrong at that price. All footage was captured using a docked Nintendo Switch OLED model and upscaled to 4K using a RetroTink4K video scaler.
