The Stem Stem is the aerial part of the plant that develops from the plumule of the embryo in a germinating seed. It is positively phototropic and negatively geotropic. Shoot system = Stem and its branches with leaves. Lateral branches of stem are exogenous in origin. Hairs or trichomes found on stem may be unicellular or multicellular. Stem possess nodes and internodes. Nodes : Part of stem from where the leaves or branches originate. Internodes : Portions between the 2 nodes.
