USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (BBC WORLD NEWS)
(PRES) To Afghanistan and the major air campaign that's underway to support ground troops fighting the Taliban insurgency. Many of the air combat missions flown there come from a US Navy aircraft carrier cruising hundreds of kilometres away out in the North Arabian Sea. Aircraft aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, have flown more than 1,400 sorties over Afghanistan on their current deployment. Our defence correspondent, Nick Childs, has been aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln and sent this report.
