Assad slams West for al-Qaeda support: Syrian leader says terrorists will strike EU and US

Speaking on state TV, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has issued a warning to the international community, saying that "just as the West financed al-Qaeda in Afghanistan...today it is supporting it in Syria...and will pay the price later in the heart of Europe and the United States".
