Cat Abscess What It Is, What To Do & Can You Afford The Vet? Scrubby's Bad Tooth Abscess Care

What is an abscess and what do you do about it? An abscess is a pocket of pus building up inside the body's tissue. It can be caused by an injury like getting bit by another animal or it could be caused by an infected tooth. This is what's wrong with Scrubby. Treatment, generally speaking, is to drain the abscess and give the animal antibiotics. Scrubby will also have to have his bad tooth removed. This video isn't about cute kittens & it's a little long & boring. BUT I thought it might be helpful to some people who might be dealing with this too. Scrubby is my original 'Foster Fail'. His litter was my very first foster litter. There was no Mama cat and I raised the 3 of them from about 1-2 days old. That was 18 years ago and Scrubby is still with me. One of these days I'll share his story. But for now, we just need to get him healthy again. As soon as he is well we will pick up another foster litter! I get a lot of questions about how to care for an illness at home when you have no access to a vet. There are some great options but sometimes the vet is just the best option. Period. I know how hard it can be when funds are low and you desperately want to do what's right by your pet. I understand that struggle. I'm including a couple links here that talk about possible options for getting that vet appointment when you think there's no way you can afford it.
