Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a somewhat common but serious disorder involving the abnormal operation of the female reproductive system. The term refers to the growth of multiple cysts on the ovaries of affected women, giving the ovaries an unusually large and studded" appearance. In addition to the cysts, PCOS patients often exhibit abnormally high levels of androgens, irregular menstrual cycles, infertility, insulin resistance, an increase in facial and body hair growth, and obesity.
