Steps to Using an Inhaler with a Spacer and Mask

Follow these steps to give your child asthma medicine using an inhaler with a spacer and a mask: Step 1: Make sure the counter is not at zero. Step 2: Shake the inhaler. Step 3: Remove the cap. Step 4: Insert the inhaler into the back of the spacer. Step 5: Hold the mask over your child's mouth and nose to create a seal. Step 6: Press down on the inhaler to release one puff only. Step 7: Keep holding the mask over your child's face for 5 to 10 breaths to make sure they breathe all of the medicine in. Step 8: Repeat steps 1 through 7 for every puff recommended by your child's doctor. Once a week, wash the spacer by hand by soaking it in warm water; do not use a sponge. Let it air dry completely before using it again.
