It was out of left field. During trial, the defense lawyer was cross examining the plaintiff's medical expert. He asked a question that was totally out of line. The attorney representing the injured patient jumped up and yelled out "OBJECTION JUDGE! THAT QUESTION IS IMPROPER!" It was improper. The Judge agreed. But instead of simply saying "Objection sustained," which means 'you cannot ask that question' the Judge started yelling at the defense lawyer. The Judge was upset with him. He was angry. This wasn't the first time he'd asked a totally improper question. In fact, the Judge had admonished him for doing that just a few minutes earlier. Here he was doing it again. As soon as the Judges stopped talking, the defense attorney started yelling back at the Judge. The lawyer was aggressive. The lawyer was almost abusive. The lawyer didn't give a damn what the jury thought. He was going to tell the Judge what he thought of him right in front of the jury. Not a very good strategy.
