Summit County sheriff's deputy critically injured after being hit by truck outside Blossom Music Cen

A Summit County sheriff's deputy is fighting for his life after being struck by vehicle on Thursday night. According to the Summit County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. when the deputy was directing traffic at the intersection of Steels Corners Road and Northampton Road in Cuyahoga Falls. The Jason Aldean concert had just been canceled at Blossom Music Center because of heavy rain and storms, and thousands went to their cars to leave. The deputy was struck by a 2006 Ford F-450 pulling a car hauler as it travelled through the intersection. The deputy, who suffered life threatening injures as a result of the incident, was transported by the Cuyahoga Falls Fire Department to Summa Hospital. The intersection was closed for approximately two hours following the incident. Inspector Bill Holland with the Summit County Sheriff's Office says the accident should serve as a reminder for people to be more aware when leaving events. "When the decision was made that the show would not go on that night, then at that point everybody was attempting to leave. And, you know, we try to get people out there as safely and quickly as possible. People get frustrated," Holland said. "We're doing our best. So just follow the directions of people directing traffic and keep an eye on them and, you know, make sure that they get to go home safe."
