NEA Big Read Closing Event: A Discussion with Doug Tallamy About "Nature's Best Hope"

Join us as we wrap up this year’s Big Read with an inspiring presentation by author and researcher Doug Tallamy. Recent headlines about global insect declines and three billion fewer birds in North America are a bleak reality check about how ineffective our current landscape designs have been at sustaining the plants and animals that sustain us. Such losses are not an option if we wish to continue our current standard of living on Planet Earth. The good news is that none of this is inevitable. Tallamy will discuss simple steps that each of us can, and must, take to reverse declining biodiversity and will explain why we, ourselves, are Nature’s Best Hope. This event is part of our 2020 NEA Big Read: Where Our Community Gathers Around a Book This year's title "Lab Girl" by Hope Jahren is a compelling story of one girl’s journey from hanging out in her father’s chemistry lab to establishing her own academic research facility. Chapters alternate between Jahren’s story and delightful tales of seeds, leaves, trees, or some other segment of the natural world. Companion books for younger readers include The Light in the Lake by Sarah R. Baughman, Seeds of Change by Jen Cullerton Johnson, and Tap the Magic Tree by Christie Matheson.
