There have been 6 years of genre shifts, innovations, iterations, and lessons learned since then, and this sequel fully realizes how valuable that is. It links into the decisions and makes itself feel fresh, new, and yet simultaneously evoking the beginning of the genre and classic magic-focused shooters like Heretic and Hexen. It's already a super solid entry that helps to solve some of the common problems with the genre, with nice weapon variety and a neat system of mini-dungeons and progression.
